Top Tips to Buying Cheap Motorcycles   by Miguel Carlos

The first thing you need to know whether you are buying expensive or cheap motorcycles is if it's the right one for you. For those who still don't know what to buy should first decide on the style they want.

Most bike manufacturers have released low budget street motorcycles. These would usually feature 250cc engines and would only cost you more or less $3,000. Before taking the plunge, it is worth knowing that these are usually marketed for beginners. You can also do well buying a used bike if it's your first time to ride.

The problem with low budget street motorcycles is that they lack power; their seats are low and uncomfortable. They usually can't go beyond 70mph. the moment you realize you want to re-sell them - you'll be surprised how hard it is to do so and how much of a great loss you need to bear. It is good to learn more about the three categories of bikes like:

? Dual purpose
? Street
? Off-road

before you think about buying one. There are also sub categories and more categories. It is important to know these so you'll know which type is for you.

So what are the different types of bikes? This includes:

? Touring bikes - will cost you $10,000 to $20,000. This is good for long trips and highway cruising. Engines would be as large as 1,000cc to 1,500cc. and these bikes weigh 700lbs to 1,000lbs. They're the "Cadillac of Bikes" with their large compartments.

? Sports bikes - will cost you $5,000 to $20,000. Its size would range from 600cc to 1,200cc and would weigh from 350lbs to 500lbs. This is not good for long trips and the insurance policies for these bikes are quite high. These bikes are popular with the young and they are known as the "Sports Car of Motorcycles".

? Cruisers - will cost you $5,000 to $20,000. They're classic looking and the most popular. They usually weigh 450lbs to 1,000lbs. It is distinguished by its use of chrome, large comfortable seat, loud exhaust note and very low seating position. Great for both highway and city riding.

? Standard bikes - will cost you $4,000 to $6,000. They usually feature 600cc to 700cc engines - making them excellent for beginners. They are released to supply reliable yet cheap motorcycles. Good features of these bikes include the fact that they are: well powered, well balanced, reliable and light weight. A negative remark is that their seats are not comfortable.

? Dual purpose bikes - will cost you $3,000 to $10,000. These bikes usually feature 400cc to 600cc engines and would weigh 350lbs. They are not good for riding rough terrains. Aside from a high center of gravity and knobby tires, they also have turn signals, emission controls and a headlight. They are good for trails and dirt roads.

? Enduro and Motocross bikes - will cost you around $1,300 to $6,000. These bikes have small engines ranging from 50cc to 500cc and would weigh 150lbs to 300lbs. These bikes are meant only for off-road trips. Enduro bikes are for off-road competitions while Motocross bikes are good for recreational trail riding. This is since they have knobby tires that are suitable for off-road traction as well as a high center of gravity.

Choosing a bike can be tricky so you need to really narrow down your choices. As a beginner, stay away from motorcycles that are fast and heavy. You can first go with a dual purpose bike or standard bike. They are not that fast, they still have many uses and above all, they are very easy to manage.

Make sure you find a bike that can handle your weight. If you weigh more than 200lbs, a bike that is 600cc to 900cc is good for you. If your weight is less than 150lbs, find a bike that is more than 650cc. If you are an experienced rider, you can choose bikes that have 1,000cc. Aside from your weight, you height is also ideal. If you are short, you may need to consider a cruiser bike.

Once you've narrowed down your choices, it is time to focus on your budget, to do some research or to visit/talk to a motorcycle dealer which can offer you suitable yet cheap motorcycles.
