Top 10 Reasons Why I Hate Online Dating

So I decided to take another gander at the world of "online" dating. Now, don't get me wrong, I am content and happy in my life without a man. I still am.  But part of the fun of being single is dating and having crushes on guys so I would like to enjoy being single to the fullest!

I hate online dating. I did it a couple times in the past and I hated it then, too. But I always seem to catch myself going back to it every few months - it's kind of like that junk food cupboard I have in the kitchen; I know what's in there and it's probably going to be unhealthy for me but I keep on checking to see anything has changed.

But I do think in this day and age it can be a good way to meet people as long as you're careful. I have a success story very close to me; my sister and her husband!! And they hate the fact that they met online - even my mom doesn't know. (Shhh!)
It's actually a very cute story. Her screen name was orangecrush and his favorite color is orange. Five months after they met they were engaged and four months later they were married. Their theme color at their wedding was orange. So there are success stories in the world of online dating!!

But because I like to let my bitter and sarcastic side out once in a while, I'm going to list my Top 10 Reasons Why I Hate Online Dating:

  1. The profile picture. How many horror stories have you heard of people going on a date and they look nothing like their picture. Everyone trys to find that one, perfect, super photogenic picture of themselves to post. Here's a tip. Guys, how about putting an average looking picture of yourself so when you meet the girl in person she can say, " Wow, you look so much better in person." So that way we're not disappointed.
  2. The clichés. "Just checking this site out." First of all, we're ALL just checking this site out. "I'm not sure what to put here." Here's a thought. Turn off your computer, get a pen and paper... AND WRITE SOMETHING. "I don't like talking about myself." Then you shouldn't be online dating... actually, you shouldn't be dating, period.
  3. Spell check. This is one of my biggest pet peeves. Here are some tips. Know the difference between there, their and they're and two, too and to. Disappoint is spelled with one 's' and two 'p's. And there is this cool invention called spell check. USE IT. I know some people say it's just spelling and grammar and it's not a big deal, but it is! How about when you went out into the world to get a job? Did you give a resume out with spelling mistakes?? I sure hope not. (I'm praying that I don't have any spelling mistakes in this post.)
  4. The pictures of guys with their shirts off. I know a lot of girls have a problem with this and truthfully... I don't
  5. Do you have MSN? How old are we... 17??? I'm almost 30. NO, I don't use MSN so don't ask.
  6. The 40-year-olds going for the 29-year-old. This isn't Hollywood guys, you're not going to get with a girl 15 years younger than you. I have even specified in my profile; no one over 40. And yet, who is my next message from? A 40-year-old. So either he didn't read my profile or he thinks he's that hot that I'd overlook his age... I don't think so.
  7. Horrible one-liners. "Hey, what's up girl?" That's all you've got for me? Buh bye.
  8. Lame, generic descriptions. "I'm into dirt-biking, camping, hiking, and UFC." Great to hear you're a guy.
  9. The first meeting. The worst date that I've gone on from an online site was a couple years ago. I was at a pub when I saw the guy come in and sit down with me. He looked nothing like his picture. At the end of the date when the bill comes he throws down a $100 bill... the bill was 12 bucks. Is this supposed to impress me? I pulled out $15 put it on the table and left.
  10. I don't want to meet someone online! I don't want that to be the story I tell my kids about how we met. How about this story: I met a guy at the gym who I gave my number to and he called me 4 months later and asked me out! That's a much better story!
