Yamaha dirt bike question?

How often do you need to change a Yamaha 4-stroke dirt bike's oil? I thought I heard either every 2nd or 4th ride or is it like a car, and can got a while? The reason I ask, is becuz a guy friend of mine blow his up, and had to get all new sleaves and pistons and all that good stuff, and the reason was, the oil was bad or something, he didnt change it often enough....Serious answers, and please dont be afraid to explain engines stuff, just cuz I'm a girl, doesnt mean I dont know anything about engines....Thanks in advance!!!!!!!!!

any top of the line 4 stroke dirt bike requires a lot of maintenance.
for every 6 to 8 hours of riding time the valves and the cam chain needs adjusted or at least checked.
the clutch needs checked to make sure its adjusted right and not slipping, the air filter needs cleaned, the chain needs adjusted and lubed.
Oil change is needed if you ride the bike thru water and mud, cause the water and dirt will always find its way into the engine, some dirt bikes require a separate engine oil for the crankcase and a different type oil for the clutch and transmission, both needs changed depending on the conditions you ride in.
and dirt bike engines run much better when they are run hard, low gear and high rpms, poking thru the trails riding it like a baby wears down the engine, plugs up the carb and fouls the plugs.
